Patient Stories
S.Z.
S.Z. a 45 year old with symptoms of premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), which included very uncomfortable PMS symptoms along with upsetting extremes of mood that were interfering with her home and work life. Her physician had prescribed a mood stabilizing prescription medication that she preferred not to use if at all possible.
She had recently had a full evaluation with her Ob/Gyn and a therapist, and had been cleared of other possible diagnosis. We reviewed her medical history and current symptoms, and identified which areas she wanted to change first.
She began 2 evidence-based supplements for PMDD, and made adjustments in her nutrition. One of the exercises she found most helpful was to carefully evaluate her typical day and analyze her stressors.
We rearranged her schedule to allow her to accommodate a realistic exercise schedule, and worked to redistribute some of her family responsibilities. She learned two mind-body techniques she could use home and at work to keep her on track.
She made excellent progress and began to gradually feel a much greater sense of control over her health. She used a diary to track progress in use of mind-body skills and record her daily exercise. She has not required a prescription medication, and has noted substantial improvement in her PMDD symptoms.
