G.F.

G.F. is a 53 year old man who came in for a consult after receiving the news that his blood pressure had reached the point where his primary care physician recommended he start medication. He was also overweight, and was experiencing pain in his joints when he exercised.

He had recently had a full physical and lab evaluation by his primary care physician. He was very motivated to change his lifestyle and avoid the need for medication if at all possible.

We began by reviewing his lab test results and daily nutrition. Working through his nutrition in a systematic way allowed him to find several areas where he could make changes quite easily. We evaluated his exercise habits, and problem solved ways to fit enjoyable exercise into his busy schedule. Three evidence-based dietary supplements were added to address high cholesterol and to provide anti-oxidant protection.

Very importantly, he was able to review his stressors and learned to associate times of stress with cues his body was giving him. Using biofeedback in the office he learned to reduce his blood pressure with relaxation and mindfulness meditation.

At his first follow up visit he had lost 10 pounds, and was feeling a significant increase in energy. He has had gradual reduction in his blood pressure, and excellent reports from his primary care physician. He is continuing to track his exercise progress with a diary, and is well on his way to his next weight loss goal.
