Patient Stories
John
John, a 9 year old boy with recurring migraine headaches which were increasing in frequency. His mother also had a history of migraine headache. A neurologist had prescribed medication for John that was having some positive effect, and the family was hoping to learn about other therapeutic options that didn't require a prescription.
John had recently had a thorough medical work up including a brain MRI, and a full set of lab testing. All these results were reviewed in detail at the first visit.
His physical exam was normal. A careful history of his daily activities revealed a chaotic schedule, and several chronic stressors the parents had not been aware of. His nutrition and sleep habits were discussed in detail, and a meal plan structured to provide more appropriate nutrition and bring more order to his day. Recommended dietary supplements and age appropriate stress management skills were reviewed.
Over the course of two visits he learned self-hypnosis skills to help reduce headache symptoms, and made great progress on his nutrition. At his recent follow up visit he was using his new self-hypnosis skills successfully, had been experiencing fewer headaches, and was feeling much better overall. His mother had adopted several of the techniques he had learned and was experiencing fewer migraines herself.
