Integrative Medicine
Integrative Medicine is one of the newest medical specialties. It is a type of medicine that takes into account the many elements (mind, body, spirit, environment) in a person’s life that can impact health, and considers use of both conventional and evidence-based complementary therapies as appropriate to the person's care.
Physicians with Fellowship training in Integrative Medicine receive specialty training in the evaluation of medical nutrition, herbal and dietary supplements, mind-body medicine such as clinical hypnosis and guided imagery, behavior change, exercise prescriptions, environment and health, spirituality in medicine, the human biofield, acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine, and homeopathy. They receive extensive training in creating effective individualized treatment plans, and view the physician-patient relationship as a partnership with great potential to encourage positive change.
Research in the field of integrative medicine is helping us to understand the powerful link between the mind and body, and examine the interactions between our environment and human health.
