About the Practice
Dr. McClafferty opened her private integrative medicine practice in 2007. Her office is designed to be peaceful and welcoming to both children and adults, with a very different feel than a typical busy medical office. It is conveniently located in the Europa Center in Chapel Hill, NC just off Highway 15-501.
Initial appointment times are 60-90 minutes, allowing time for questions and discussion of topics not usually covered in a regular medical check up. Patients are seen in the office one at a time, allowing Dr. McClafferty to give you her undivided attention. The private exam room was designed with the idea that modern health care does not have to be sterile or uncomfortable.
The consult includes a thorough medical history and evaluation of your current medical therapies and any complementary treatments you are using. Topics discussed include: nutrition, supplements, stressors, exercise, sleep, daily routine, environmental exposures, social connections, and spirituality as it relates to your health. This type of history taking is time intensive, and often helps provide insight into the root of the problem.
Following your visit and exam, you will leave with initial written recommendations. Dr. McClafferty will then prepare detailed and thoroughly researched recommendations for you or your child, and help you sort through your treatment options. She can help you connect with carefully evaluated resources in the area as needed.
In addition to her medical training, Dr. McClafferty is trained in clinical hypnosis and guided imagery, techniques she successfully uses to help people manage symptoms of stress, pain, and to prepare for upcoming challenges such as cancer treatment or surgery. She enjoys teaching children and adults self hypnosis skills, and is able to prepare personalized CD's in the office. Dr. McClafferty also has training in Reiki, which is similar to Therapeutic and Healing Touch therapy used in many hospitals across the country. The quiet office setting allows her to provide these additional therapies to people interested in expanding their treatment options.
